Wellton Fuel Spill Characterization and Remediation
This JP-8 fuel spill was a result of a rollover accident on the eastbound Interstate 8 Avenue 29E off-ramp. GCE was tasked with the characterization of the soil and possibly groundwater contamination on site. GCE completed the subsurface drilling investigation to define the vertical and lateral extent of contamination.
Coordination with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) was necessary for approval of the traffic control plan and encroachment permit for the well investigation, and remediation system. The site characterization sampling effort successfully characterized the vertical and lateral extent of contamination
on site. Analytical results from the soil sampling provided a well defined soil contamination plume with concentrations exceeding the residential Soil Remediation Levels (rSRLs). Analytical results from the groundwater sampling confirmed that groundwater concentrations do not exceed Aquifer Water Quality
Standards (AWQS).
GCE is currently designing the Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) remediation system, concrete equipment pad, SVE wells, associated piping and electrical.
