Muggins Hydrologic Investigation and Protective Berm Design - US Army YPG
This investigation originated after the identification of several soil contamination plumes at the Muggins Mountain Site of YPG. Distinct soil contamination areas were delineated including the White Phosphorus Area, the Propellant Area, the Former Dunnage Pit Area, and the Explosives Residue Area. The aforementioned contamination areas were located at the base of the Muggins Mountain, providing a potential migration pathway to transport contaminants over the entire watershed during a storm event.
GCE performed the complete investigation on the Muggins Mountain Site. The project began by evaluating the aerial survey, topographic survey, site investigation, and hydrologic study. GCE utilized all available data to design storm water protection berms to confine contaminated zones and protect the Muggins Mountain Area. GCE also supervised the construction of the protective berms and performed the construction staking, materials testing, compaction testing, and special inspections.
