Site Characterization and LUST Closure of the Administration Area

As testing operations at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground grow, so does their need for facility and infrastructure improvements. A new fuel station for YPG’s Main Post was constructed to serve the military and civilian person-nel on base. The former service station in the Administration Area was closed. During the closure of the service station, two leaking underground storage tanks (LUSTs) were identified on site.

GCE prepared the Site Characterization Work Plan and Health and Safety Plan for the LUSTs at the former fueling station. GCE evaluated the fuel release and delineated the soil and groundwater contaminant plumes using a network of monitoring wells and soil borings in accordance with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s Release Reporting and Corrective Action Guidance document.

GCE successfully characterized the extent of soil and groundwater contamination on site. GCE reviewed the analytical data and was responsible for all quality assurance and quality control for the characterization effort. GCE also completed the topographic survey, mapping, plume delineation and groundwater elevation survey for the site.
