Explosive Constituents Evaluation - US Army YPG
The military testing conducted at the US Army Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) has the potential to contaminate the soil and groundwater at the facility. In order to evaluate testing impacts, GCE developed a Sampling and Analysis Plan for the YPG OB/OD area. The study involved a review of the wash characteristics in the up-gradient zone, the active zone, and the down-gradient zone of the OB/OD area. The purpose of the study was to determine if contaminants originating from the OB/OD areas were migrating off site via storm water. GCE developed the sampling plan to determine background concentrations of explosive constituents in soils up-gradient of the OB/OD area and concentrations of explosive constituents downgradient of the OB/OD area.
GCE prepared the topographic survey and mapping for the site and evaluated the wash characteristics to select sample locations that were most likely to contain contaminants of potential concern. This sampling was required as part of the Hazardous Waste Operations Plan for the OB/OD area. Upon receiving approval of the SAP, GCE was responsible for supervising the sampling event, reviewing analytical data, quality assurance/quality control, and preparing the final report. This wash evaluation report will be used to support testing operations on board Yuma Proving Ground.
